Frequently Asked Questions |
GeneralWhat is the LinkLarry widget? The LinkLarry widget is used to crowdsource related links for blogs and websites. Visitors are encouraged to share, discover, and rate the related links for your content. You can view a demo of the widget on the homepage. Why LinkLarry?Although comment systems have become more advanced, they fail to encourage visitors to link to valuable information. Rated comments and threaded discussions help a little, but the majority of people don't read through all the comments. LinkLarry complements existing commenting systems by specializing exclusively in links and centralizing these links above the comments section for more visitors to notice. How does it work?Anyone is able to share, view, or rate a related link, but LinkLarry is most effective on websites that have either high traffic or a strong community/following. When a visitor clicks a link from the widget, they will see a toolbar which allows them to vote on the link's quality. After the widget collects enough feedback from visitors, it will order the links from best to worst and remove links that are not helpful. The widget will also dynamically adjust to display an appropriate amount of links based on how many where submitted and the quality distribution. Example: If there's 10 link suggestions, and 3 are good quality, the widget will be the default size, but if there's 12 suggestions and 8 are good quality the widget will display more than the default size. Upcoming linksWhen there are many links suggested by visitors, the widget will maintain a default of 5 link slots and dedicate one slot to browsing upcoming links. The upcoming link slot conserves screen space while still allowing the user to quickly browse through links that LinkLarry hasn't confirmed as helpful yet. Once a link has been determined as bad it'll be removed from the upcoming slot and never see the light of day again. Webmasters and BloggersWill this slow down my website? The LinkLarry widget is very small, about the size of a small picture being downloaded, so it should not noticeably slow down your website. Additionally, since you will be inserting the widget below your content, your visitors will be reading while the widget loads and won't notice any slow down. Please understand that we are as much concerned about slowing down your website as you are, and we take every measure possible to ensure this is never an issue. For example, our static files are hosted through the SimpleCDN Content Distribution Network which uses the closest server to your visitors. If you ever encounter problems with the widget loading or slowing down your page, report it to our support team as soon as possible. Can I choose which posts display the widget? It depends on your website platform, but in most cases the answer is yes. After registering your website to receive your unique widget code, you can try manually inserting your code at the end of your posts when you are done writing. You will most likely need to switch editing modes to allow the Javascript. This typically means switching to 'HTML' editing. Lastly, in order to make sure the widget only displays while viewing an individual post, make sure you have the post split into an 'extended entry' where some of the content (IE: the widget) is only displayed while viewing the post individually. For example, you can do this in Wordpress by pressing Alt + Shift + T. Please be aware that some systems may remove Javascript from your posts, thereby removing the widget code. Manually inserting the widget on a per post basis is supported by both Wordpress and Typepad. Why should I register my website?Registering your website allows you to:
How do I moderate links?Login to the widget using your webmaster account and click on the link from the widget you wish to moderate. At the next screen, instead of seeing voting options you should see moderation options. My page had links and now they're gone!?This is probably because your page's URL changed. Try to keep only one URL for each page. We are working to minimize this problem for the future. |
